Easy All-Natural Floor Cleaning Solutions

If you don’t want your small children and pets crawling around on your floors after they’ve been cleaned with chemicals, you’re in luck! There are an array of simple, inexpensive, and natural products you can make yourself at home perfectly capable of handling all of your floor cleaning needs, with just a few products commonly found in your pantry.

Find the perfect natural floor cleaning solution for your home:

  • Hard floor surfaces
For the regular cleaning, shining, and mild disinfection of sealed wood, tile, laminate and linoleum, a simple solution of equal parts white vinegar and hot water swabbed on with a mop will do the trick. No rinsing required!
  • Wood floors
For a little clean and shine, clean wood floors with this no-rinse floor cleaning solution:
    • 1 gallon hot water
    • ¾ cup olive or vegetable oil
    • ½ cup lemon juice
  • Carpet
For carpet spots and stains, mix 1-2 drops of dishwashing liquid with equal parts vinegar and water and spray on stains. Let sit for 5 minutes, then scrub with a soft brush and blot dry.
  • Tile and grout
Tile and grout can be tricky, but not if you know the right cleaner to meet your needs…
    • Set in dirt and stains
Wipe down with a damp sponge of full strength white vinegar. Then scour with baking soda and a brush.
    • Tough spots and stains
Wipe down with full strength white vinegar, then sprinkle and scrub with a mixture of ½ cup baking soda, 2 tablespoons washing soda, and 2 tablespoons borax. If you want a little more bubble, try adding 3 tablespoons liquid castille or dish soap.
    • Moldy grout
Mix equal parts of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water in a bottle. Spray on until saturated and let sit for 45 minutes. Wipe down with a damp sponge, then rinse.
  • Tough stains?
Pre-treat hard flood surfaces with 2 tablespoons washing soda dissolved in 16 ounces of water. Follow with a thorough mopping and rinse.
  • Need to disinfect?
Bathrooms and other areas of your home on the messy/germy side are no match for a floor cleaning solution of ¼ cup borax to 1 gallon of hot water. No rinse. No problem.
  • Want a little extra deodorizing?
Adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil can leave your floors and home smelling fresh.

Want to cut down on your floor cleaning needs?
